0. Introduction

a) The Bible says God (the Father and the Word who later became Jesus Christ) used what they looked like as a pattern for creating man: "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness . . ." (Genesis 1:26). Although composed of spirit, the Godhead used themselves as the master template from which humans came into existence.

1. Since God can experience a range of feelings and emotions, he has given us the ability to do so as well. In fact, we humans have a sense of humor and laugh because he first had these abilities! The Bible reveals he is capable of feeling and experiencing:

a) Anger (1Kings 11:9)

b) Gentleness (Galatians 5:22)

c) Grief (Genesis 6:6, Psalm 95:10)

d) Jealousy (Exodus 20:5; 34:14)

e) Joy (Nehemiah 8:10; Galatians 5:22)

f) Love and Hate (John 3:16; 1John 4:8-9, 16; Proverbs 6:16)

g) Longsuffering (Galatians 5:22)

h) Mercy (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 1-2; Titus 3:5)

i) Pity (Psalm 103:13)

j) Pleasure and delight (Psalm 147:10)

k) Be surprised or amazed (Genesis 6:1-6, Isaiah 59:16, Mark 6:6)

l) Laughter from a sense of humor (Psalm 2:4, 37:12-13)
