Notes

Following the tragic loss of his daughters due to a shipping accident, Horatio

hymn while traveling to see his wife after she survived the sinking. Some survivors

of the

Titanic disaster are reported to have sung a Philip Bliss hymn entitled Pull for the

Shore

while they rowed away from the ship.

Musical Instruments in the word of God

a) Jubal is the first person in the Bible related to the creation of music ( 21 His brother (the brother of Jabel was Jubal), the ancestor of all musicians who play the harp and the flute. - Genesis 4:21). A variety of instruments existed at the time of Daniel the prophet (Daniel 3:4-5). Trumpets were used to call the people to assemble (Numbers 10:1-2). Instruments are an integral part of the worship of God (They (King David and the Israelites) were playing harps, lyres, drums, rattles, and cymbals. - 2Samuel 6:5). Moses' sister used a tambourine-like instrument to praise God (Exodus 15:20). Instruments were used by those with drinking problems to celebrate (Isaiah 5:11-12).

b) Music in Jerusalem's temple began with King David. David was not only a poet but also a musical composer who wrote no less than eighty of the 150 Psalms found in the Bible. He also invented several instruments (Amos 6:5; 1Chronicles 23:5, Psalm 33:2; 144:9). There are at least fifteen musical instruments mentioned in the word of God.
