(Message by Tanny Keng)

The Solid Rock

Hymn writer (lyrics): Edward Mote

Bible Rock

a) God is a place of safety and protection, like a rock, to those who believe in him (Psalm 27:5, 40:2). As a rock, God is our refuge, salvation and strength.

i) But the LORD is my refuge; my God is the rock of my protection. (Psalm 94:22, see also 18:2 and 95:1)

b) Christ became a stumbling stone or 'rock of offense' to those who refuse to obey God (Romans 9:33, 1Peter 2:8). Jesus was the ROCK in the Old Testament that led the children of Israel out of Egyptian slavery (1Corinthians 10:2 - 4). Jesus also promised to build the New Testament church not upon any man (e.g. Peter) but upon himself, the true Rock.

i) 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter (when means a small pebble), and on this rock (a giant formation) I will build My church . . . (Matthew 16)

c) In the Bible the breaking of rocks can be symbolic of the power and might of God (Jeremiah 23:29).

The End ...
