NUMBER SEVEN (7-16)

0. Introduction

a) Number 7 is a great number of spiritual perfection. A number which, therefore, occupies so large a place in the works, and especially in the Word of God as being inspired by the Holy Spirit. As a number the actual word and number "Seven" is used as no other number is. Seven and its compounds occur in multiples of seven in the Old Testament.

i) Seven occurs 287 times, or 7 x 41.
ii) "Seventh," the fractional part, occurs 98 times, or 7 x 14.
iii) "Seven-fold," occurs 7 times.

b) It is interesting to note what other mention(s) for 7 can be found in the Bible.

a) The seven gifts of Romans 12:6-8.

b) The 7 titles of Christ in Hebrews:

i) Heir of all things, 1:2.
ii) Captain of our salvation, 2:10.
iii) Apostle, 3:1.
iv) Author of salvation, 5:9.
v) Forerunner, 6:20.
vi) High Priest, 10:21.
vii) Author and finisher of faith, 12:2.

c) The 7 first-fruits of :

i) Resurrection, 1Corinthians 15:20-23.
ii) The Spirit, Romans 8:23.

v) The "redeemed from the earth," Revelation 14:5.

f) The seven steps in the humiliation of Jesus and the seven in His exaltation in Philippians 2.
