Standing on the Promises

Promises of God a) God makes promises both to groups of people and to individuals. He made promises to Noah (Genesis 7:1), Abraham (Genesis 24:1), Issac (Genesis 26:12-24, 28), Jacob (Israel - Genesis 35:9-15), David (2Samuel 5:10; 1Chronicles 14:17), Solomon (1Kings 3:13; 1Chronicles 29:25; 2Chronicles 1:1), Elijah (1Kings 17:2-7, 19:5-8), King Hezekiah (2Kings 20:1-7), Daniel (Daniel 1:9) and many others. b) God has promised to direct us in the right way to live life if we acknowledge him. i) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. 6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way. (Proverbs 3) c) The New Covenant, heralded by Jesus Christ and the New Testament, makes three new and great promises to man. The first is that God promises he will write his way of life into our very being and will give us the internal motivation to obey him (Hebrews 8:10-11). Secondly, God has promised to not only forgive our sins but to NEVER AGAIN remember them (1John 1:9, Hebrews 8:12). God's third promise is that he will give eternal life and an eternal inheritance to those who love him (Hebrews 9:15)!
