Trust and Obey

Hymn writer (lyrics): John H. Sammis Music composer: Daniel B. Towner Notes  This hymn was written in 1887. Sammis first made a living as a businessman then as a Presbyterian church minister. During his life Daniel Towner was the musical director for several churches.

Trusting and Obeying God a) Trusting (having faith in) God is one of the hallmarks of a true Christian. The wisest human who ever lived, King Solomon, admonishes us to TRUST in God and his wisdom and to not base our judgments on what we may think is right (Proverbs 3:5-7). Although believers cannot earn salvation through obedience to God, their faith is made perfect through good works and obeying what is said in God's word. No less than the apostle Paul himself stated that God's law (including the ten commandments) was not only holy, but also righteous and even good for a believer to follow (Romans 7:12). 25. But the one who has looked into the perfect law of freedom, and has continued in it, this one himself has not become a forgetful hearer, but is a doer of the work. This one shall be blessed in his actions. (James 1)  "The one who says, 'I know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." (1John 2:4)
