JESUS SAID ABOUT LOVE (2)
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) In Mark 12:28 a scribe asked Jesus which of the commandments was the most important to follow. Jesus mentioned two commandments, one from Deuteronomy 6:5, the other from Leviticus 19:18. Both had to do with love. Why is love so important? Jesus said that all of the commandments were given for two simple reasons - to help us love God and love others as we should.
b) What else did Jesus say about love?
1. God must be your first love.
a) Text reference: Matthew 6:24; 10:37
i) 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24 NKJV)
ii) 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. (Matthew 10:37 NKJV)
2. Your love God when you obey him.
a) Text reference: John 14:21; 15:10
i) 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21 NKJV)
ii) 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. (John 15:10 NKJV)
3. God loves Jesus his Son.
a) Text reference: John 5:20; 10:17
i) 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. (John 5:20 NKJV)
ii) 17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. (John 10:17 NKJV)
4. Jesus loves God.
a) Text reference: John 14:31
i) 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here. (John 14:31 NKJV)
5. Those who refuse Jesus don't have God's love.
a) Text reference: John 5:41-44
i) 41 “I do not receive honor from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. 44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? (John 5:41-44 NKJV)
6. Jesus loves us just as God loves Jesus.
a) Text reference: John 15:9
i) 9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. (John 15:9 NKJV)
