PROPHETS OF OLD - ZEPHANIAH
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.” (2 Kings 17:13 NKJV)
b) Who were these prophets? They were the ones who tried to turn their nations back to God. Predicting the future as revealed by God was just one part of a prophet's job; his main role was to preach God's word to the people - warning, instructing, and encouraging them to live as they ought.
c) Here is one of them.
1. Who?
a) Zephaniah.
2. When?
a) 640-621 B.C.
3. Ministered during the reign of these kings:
a) Josiah of Judah.
b) Scripture text: The book of Zephaniah.
4. Main message
a) A day will come when God, as Judge, will severely punish all nations; but afterwards, he will show mercy to his people.
5. Significance
a) We will all be judged for our disobedience to God, but if we remain faithful to him, he will show us mercy.
The End ...
