ARTISTIC DUTIES ASSIGNED IN THE TEMPLE

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) King David charged all the people to do their jobs "for the name of the Lord" (see 1 Chronicles 22:17-19). God needs people of every talent - not just prophets and priests - to obey him.

i) 17 David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying, 18 “Is not the Lord your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord and before His people. 19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy articles of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 22:17-19 NKJV)

1. Artistic Duties

a) Musicians

i) 6 All these were under the direction of their father for the music in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the authority of the king. (1 Chronicles 25:6 NKJV)

b) Singers

i) 7 So the number of them, with their brethren who were instructed in the songs of the Lord, all who were skillful, was two hundred and eighty-eight. (1 Chronicles 25:7 NKJV)
