MICAH THE PROPHET TO JUDAH

0. Introduction

a) Micah served as a prophet to Judah from 742-687 B.C.

1. Climate of the times

a) King Ahaz set up heathen idols in the temple and finally nailed the temple doors shut.

b) Four different nations harassed Judah.

c) When Hezekiah became king, the nation began a slow road to recovery and economic strength.

d) Hezekiah probably heeded much of Micah's advice.

2. Main message

a) Prediction of the fall of both the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah.

b) This was God's discipline upon the people, actually showing how much he cared for them.

c) Hezekiah's good reign helped postpone Judah's punishment.

3. Importance of message

a) Choosing to live apart from God is making a commitment to sin.

b) Sin leads to judgment and death.

c) God alone shows us the way to eternal peace.

d) His discipline often keeps us on the right path.
