PROPHETS OF OLD - MICAH

(Message by Tanny Keng)

0. Introduction

a) 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.” (2 Kings 17:13 NKJV)

b) Who were these prophets? They were the ones who tried to turn their nations back to God. Predicting the future as revealed by God was just one part of a prophet's job; his main role was to preach God's word to the people - warning, instructing, and encouraging them to live as they ought.

c) Here is one of them.

1. Who?

a) Micah.

2. When? (B.C.)

a) 742-687 B.C.

3. Ministered during the reign of these kings:

a) Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah of Judah.

b) Scripture text: The book of Micah.

4. Main message

a) Predicted the fall of both the northern and southern kingdoms. This was God's discipline on the people, actually showing how much he cared for them.

5. Significance

a) Choosing to live a life apart from God is making a commitment to sin. Sin leads to judgment and death. God alone shows us the way to eternal peace. His discipline often keeps us on the right path.

The End ...
