SPIRIT OF WISDOM & UNDERSTANDING

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. The Spirit of wisdom and understanding

a) Wisdom – chokmah: Skill and insight, knowledge to accomplish and perform.

(1 Corinthians 12:8)
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit…

b) Understanding

i) Discernment, the ability to separate and judge righteously truth from falsehood, and good from evil. To comprehend, have insight, perception, and the ability to use information wisely.

ii) Understanding – From: biyn, a prim. root; to separate mentally or distinguish.

(1 Corinthians 12:10)
…to another discerning of spirits…

c) Wisdom and understanding are both needed in all types of work and ministry for it to be successful.

(Proverbs 24:3)
Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established.

d) Wisdom is a creative idea, an insight; but understanding is needed to accomplish the goal. Wisdom may see hidden information, but understanding knows why, and how to deal with the information.

(Proverbs 2:1-6 NKJV)
My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, {2} So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; {3} Yes, if you cry out for discernment (understanding), And lift up your voice for understanding, {4} If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; {5} Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. {6} For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

(Exodus 31:3-4 NKJV)
“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, {4} “to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

(Psalms 51:6 NKJV)
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

(Psalms 111:10 NKJV)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

(Proverbs 9:10 KJV)
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy (sacred) is understanding.

(Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; {6} In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

(Proverbs 28:5 NKJV)
Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the LORD understand all.
