ROYAL PRIESTHOOD QUALIFICATIONS: THOSE WHO WOURN

1. Royal Priesthood
1 Peter 2:9-10 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; {10} who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
2. The Qualifications and Blessings of Priesthood
a) We believe that what we call the beatitudes that Jesus gave at the Sermon on the Mount are the qualifications and blessings of priesthood in the Kingdom of God. Immediately following the beatitudes Jesus spoke that we are salt and light in reaching the lost world. Salt is for taste and light is to see, we believe that as we operate in the beatitudes as priest reaching the lost world people will taste and see that the Lord is good.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. {4} Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. {5} Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. {6} Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. {7} Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. {8} Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. {9} Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. {10} Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. {11} “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. {12} “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
3. Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
a) Christians mourn because of our spiritual failures, and also for the lost souls that we have compassion for. The prophet Samuel mourned for Saul when God rejected Saul from being king.

And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
b) Feeling the pain and suffering of others is a part of being compassionate. Jesus gives us comfort through the Holy Spirit, which is the oil of joy.
(Isaiah 61:1-6 NKJV)
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; {2} To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, {3} To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” {4} And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations. {5} Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, And the sons of the foreigner Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. {6} But you shall be named the priests of the LORD, They shall call you the servants of our God. You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, And in their glory you shall boast.
