DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY

1. Doing It The Right Way

a) Numbers 20:1-13

i) The people of Israel arrived in the wilderness of Zin and they camped at Kadesh. But there was not enough water to drink at that place. So they rebelled against Moses and Aaron.

ii) God told Moses to get Aaron's rod and to speak to the rock and to tell it to pour out its water! Instead Moses lifted the rod and struck the rock twice. Water gushed out; and the people and their cattle drank.

iii) But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, " Because you did not believe me and did not sanctify me in the eyes of the people of Israel, you shall not bring them into the land I have promised them!

b) Lessons to be learned:

i) Because Moses did not do exactly what the Lord said to be done, he and his brother Aaron, workers in ministry, were barred from entering into the Promised Land!

ii) Moses struck the rock (instead of speaking to the rock) due to his anger and as a result his mistake bore some consequences. Perhaps, Moses was so used to his old ways i.e. striking the rod (staff) than any new ways presented to him.

iii) We know that anger doesn't make us good, as God demands that we must be (James 1:20 TLB).

iv) Even though Moses did the opposite of what God instructed, yet the miracle (water gushed out from the rock) happened. The main reason for this miracle was because God saw the thirst of his people and he wanted to quench them. But yet the miracle did not condone Moses' actions.

v) We ought to be careful in doing the works for the Lord. We must do it in the right way!

Leviticus 22:29 TLB
When you offer the Lord a sacrifice of thanksgiving, you must do it in the right way, eating the sacrificial animal the same day it is slain. Leave none of it for the following day. I am the Lord.
