YOUR TREASURE REVEALS YOUR HEART

YOUR TREASURE REVEALS YOUR HEART

Bible Verse: Matthew 6:21

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

1-Minute Explanation

Jesus connects our treasure with our heart because what we value eventually receives our attention, energy and resources. Treasure is not limited to money. It can include time, reputation, relationships, career, possessions, comfort, influence and even ministry recognition. Whatever we consistently prioritize reveals what matters most to us. We may say that God is first, but our use of time and resources can reveal a different reality.

THE TWIST

The question is not simply, “What do I possess?” The deeper question is, “What possesses my heart?” Something can become an idol without looking like an idol. If my decisions are continually controlled by money, recognition, comfort, status or personal ambition, those things may have taken a place that belongs to God.

WHAT CAN I LEARN?

I learn that my priorities reveal my spiritual condition. Where I invest my treasure, I eventually invest my heart. If I want my heart to become more devoted to God, I must intentionally invest my time, resources and energy into things that have eternal value.

HOW DOES IT APPLY TO ME?

What receives the best of my time and attention? What do I become most excited about? What am I unwilling to surrender? If I reviewed my calendar, bank statements and daily priorities, would they demonstrate that God's Kingdom is important to me?

FINAL REFLECTIONS

My treasure is a spiritual mirror. It reveals what I truly value, not merely what I claim to value. I should regularly examine my priorities because the direction of my resources often reveals the direction of my heart.

PRAYER

Lord, examine my heart and reveal anything that has become more important to me than You. Teach me to use my time, resources, abilities and opportunities for purposes that honour You. Help me store up treasures that have eternal value and keep my heart centred on Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.

TAKEAWAY

Show me where you invest your treasure, and I will see what your heart values.
