FORGIVING

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. Seven true things about forgiving

1. Forgiving brings blessing to you

a) 8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:8-9 NIV)

2. Forgiving others paves the way for you to be forgiven

a) 37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." (Luke 6:37 NIV)

3. Forgiving allows you to forget and move forward

a) 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14 NIV)

4. Forgiving frees you to worship God with your whole heart

a) 23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift." (Matthew 5:23-24 NIV)

5. Forgiving proves that you are kind and tenderhearted

a) 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32 NIV)

6. Forgiving makes you Christ-like

a)13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13 NIV)

7. Forgiving is the way you pursue peace and keep from becoming bitter

a)14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. (Hebrews 12:14-15 NIV)

2) Prayer focus

a) Pray that you will forgive and forgive and forgive .... 70 x 7 times.

The End ...
