RED ALERT!
(Message by Tanny Keng)
0. Introduction
a) Popping corns
i) God will do what He has promised us and his blessings will take place like this:
@1. “Dried corns are kept in micro-oven for quite some time. As heat is applied increasingly in the micro-oven, the corns are being pressurized until its utmost limit of withstanding the pressure without bursting out. But they will burst out when they cannot stand the extreme heat applied. There will be “popping of corns” one after another. We could hear the popping sound of corns one after the other in the micro-oven.”
ii) Past years were like the popcorns that had been pressurized to its utmost limit. This year we shall see the release of God’s blessings like popcorns bursting out one after the other. I have no doubts that God will just do what He has planned for us.
iii) However, my message today is not about God’s blessings but rather about his warning sign "Red Alert" to take heed and the reasons for his miracle of blessings.
1.What is God’s warning sign "Red Alert"?
a) 11“But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. (Deuteronomy 8:11-14 NLT)
2.What are God’s reasons for wanting to perform miracles for us?
a) Fulfill the covenant he confirmed with Israel's ancestors with an oath
i) 17He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. (Deuteronomy 8:17, 18 NLT)
b) Fulfill the oath he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
i) 4“After the Lord your God has done this for you, don’t say in your hearts, ‘The Lord has given us this land because we are such good people!’ No, it is because of the wickedness of the other nations that he is pushing them out of your way. 5It is not because you are so good or have such integrity that you are about to occupy their land. The Lord your God will drive these nations out ahead of you only because of their wickedness, and to fulfill the oath he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 6You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are good, for you are not—you are a stubborn people. (Deuteronomy 9:4-6 NLT)
3.What must we do to go in and possess the land?
a) Obey the God’s commands
i) 7But you have seen the Lord perform all these mighty deeds with your own eyes! 8“Therefore, be careful to obey every command I am giving you today, so you may have strength to go in and take over the land you are about to enter. (Deuteronomy 11:7, 8 NLT)
b) Do right, just and good
i) 28Be careful to obey all my commands, so that all will go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and pleasing to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 12:28 NLT)
@1. 21We are careful to be honorable before the Lord, but we also want everyone else to see that we are honorable. (2 Corinthians 8:21 NLT)
@2. 3The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices. (Proverbs 21:3 NLT)
@3. 15It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. (1 Peter 2:15 NLT)
c) Do not justify
i) 32“So be careful to obey all the commands I give you. You must not add anything to them or subtract anything from them. (Deuteronomy 12:32 NLT) Do not justify your thinking contrary to God’s expressed commands.
d) Live good lives
i) 12Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world. (1 Peter 2:12 NLT)
e) There is a great future ahead of us according to God’s plan
i) For this year 2013 we can expect our heavenly Father to give us good gifts.
@1. 11For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)
4. Prayer focus
a) Pray that we take heed to God's warning sign "Red Alert" and do the things right before his sight.
The End ...
