HEALTHY HERITAGE (2)

(Message by Tanny Keng)

1. A healthy heritage is a possible present reality

a) Even as Christ has died on the cross to take away our sins and by his stripes we are healed (Isaiah 53:5); the restoration of total heavenly bliss is to be fulfilled when Christ comes again. Nevertheless, we can all personally claim this healthy heritage from our Lord to make this a present reality.

i) 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5 NIV)

b) God promised that "26If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26 NIV)

i) 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, (Psalms 103:3 NIV)

ii) 37 He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. (Psalms 105:37 NIV)

c) Obedience to God's law will eliminate the sickness of Egypt (of the world). What are the diseases that the world is experiencing? Cardiovascular diseases 50%, cancer 30%, diabetes 10%, AIDS etc. etc. Now these figures could have been revised increasingly upward. Strange enough, God's people today are having these same diseases of the world and are having them in the same alarming ratio. Something is wrong; what causes God's people to be as sickly as the world and not being able to claim the health that was promised to be our heritage?

d) God originally intended for us to live forever, but because of sin, death came into the world (Romans 5:12)

i) 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned (Romans 5:12 NIV)

e) Even though sin had entered the world, the average lifespan of the people in Genesis 5 was around 912 years.

i) Adam 930 years
ii) Seth 912 years
iii) Enos 905 years
iv) Cainan 910 years,
v) Mahalaleel 895 years
vi) Jared 962 years
vii) Methuselah 969 years
viii) Lamech 777 years

f) Now God appointed our lifespan to be around 120 years.

i) 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3 NIV)

g) So after Noah's time, we find

i) Abraham lived 175 years (Genesis 25:7)
ii) Isaac 180 years (Genesis 35:27-28)
iii) Joseph 110 years (Genesis 50:26)
iv) Moses 120 years (Deuteronomy 34:7)
v) Job 140 years (Job 42:16)

h) God promised those who served him and obey him that "25 his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, 26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span." (Exodus 23:25-26 NIV). The Lord promised blessings upon his obedient people; upon their food supply and they will be healthy and live up a full lifespan (120 years according to Genesis 6:3)."

i) The Lord expressed his desire for us to be holy and healthy. 3 John 2 says, "2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." (3 John 2 NIV)

j) Psalms 90:10 says, "10 Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. (Psalms 90:10 NIV)

k) This was written by Moses in the wilderness, in the context of God's wrath to a rebellious people.

i) 7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation. 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. 9All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. 10 Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. 11 If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. (Psalms 90:7-11 NIV)

The End ...
