JESUS CHRIST'S NAME: THE LORD
(Massage by Tanny Keng)
1. Jesus Christ is Lord
(Luke 2:11)
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savor, which is Christ the Lord."
a) Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed; he is the Lord, Lord of all; He is a sovereign prince; nay, He is God, for the Lord, in the Old Testament, answers to Jehovah. He is a Savior, and He will be a Savior to those only that accept Him as their Lord.
(Luke 3:4-6)
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘prepare the way of the LORD [Jehovah], make His paths straight…. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.'”
(1 Corinthians 12:3)
“No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”
(Philippians 2:11)
“And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
b) Jesus Christ, therefore, is Lord to Christians in the same sense that Jehovah was Lord to the Hebrews.
c) The usage referred to is altogether peculiar; no man-not Moses, nor Abraham, nor David, nor any of the prophets or apostles-is ever thus prevailing addressed or invoked as Lord. We have but one Lord; and Jesus Christ is Lord.
